This was far more complex than any of the LARP weapons done before and many of the other projects here.

The Decimator Concept

This is the Live Action Role Play weapon equivalent of a concept car and swiss Army knife all in one.

The Decimator concept was based on plans being put together for a super hybrid of the various weapon classes, mock combat techniques and innovative construction techniques that were innovated or on a drawing board to be incorporated at the time Merlin’s Armour was wound up as I moved to university first time. Collecting proverbial dust till resurrected as a product development project to show what I could do to impress at my Brunel University application interview and it worked.

It combines combat systems for :
  • Distance
  • Long range
  • Medium range
  • Short range

Combining a Combining:

  • Axes
  • Swords
  • Daggers
  • Staff
  • Hooks
  • Shield
  • Projectile / Throwing Weapons
  • Multi-Handle & Distance Weapons
    close up to long range.
  • And to an extent a Tank

This is a run through of the final Mark 1 prototype.

The Decimator combined several weapon systems into one much like a Swiss army knife combing an offensive shield designed not only to defend the user but to be used offensively as a weapon in itself bristling with hooks and weapon traps to grab opponents and their weapons to disarm, grab and pin opponents.

The system also included close contact and distant weapon use with sheaths of throwing daggers which could also be used for surprise sneaky attacks on pinned or locked up opponents. There is also a light weight sword sheathed in the system that can be quick drawn to be used in combination with the heavier shield.

The shield is bladed all over and spiked at the rear so you can strike out to the back and front without turning and exposing yourself. or slash out to the side.

Instead of a boss there is a axe blade spike on the surface to shield barge and slash. This is also hollow with a hole to trap opponents weapons.

The main offensive element are the twin blades extruding from the front and the shield is designed to be held length wise so the user can direct the blades at an opponent whilst under the protection of the shield never exposing themselves.

Unlike standard shields this does not have straps but a series of arm bars so it can be held in a variety of configurations which can be rapidly changed and give lots of leverage , especially with grabbing users or weapons. The shield can be spun, used in a variety of two handed, arm held, extended length, wrapped around the body with excellent ergonomics, held out, used flat on, swing in figure of 8s and various other conventional handling techniques.

The shield is also curved away concavely, not only to held overhanging axe heads away and make it harder for opponents to hook the user but so it slides over the body and legs of the user again very ergonomically.
