This was actually an electronics assignment on my Industrial Design Degree. The assignment was to make a tone generator instrument, where metal panels were attached to a circuit via different resistors to make different tunes or stroked along different length panels for different time notes. Many turned up with card boxes, I made this whole surf wave to play the first two bars of the opening credit tune to TV show Hawaii FiveO.
The first stage was to study surf photos such as these:
The form meant that reductive forming from materials would cause enormous wastage and be very difficult. The cost would have been huge. To use fibre glass would be costly so decided on paper marche around wire mech. A mistake here was to try and add the wheeled rail make from a draws runner on after. Would have been better to start with this.

I used wire brushed from slot racing for the contract brush, this was wired to the circuit sand connected to a chest of draws rail and toy surfer via a slot in the surf. This helped to maintain a constant speed.
The surf wave was covered in textured wall paper to give a water surf stream texture and coated in acrylic paint. The water was mixed with gel medium to make it more deep glossy water like and a pumice grit medium added to the sand painting for the beach.
