My name is Chris Rose; I am an imagineer blend of creativity with a problem solving engineering mind. My ambition is to tackle projects with both knowhow and wow whilst sticking to the brief. My experience and skills in communication and project management will allow your vision to be delivered in time, in budget and to specification.
I create in a variety of mediums, which I have demonstrated via my accessible portfolio.
I am seeking further opportunities to demonstrate and refine my skills.
When problem solving I'm budget conscious and technically minded with a lot of hands on skills from behind the scenes in the industry. Often been nicknamed Macgyver for jury rigging problem solving with whatever is to hand.
I recently completed a UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma at Creative Media Skills in Pinewood Studios partnered with Buckinghamshire Group College.
I was grateful to receive tutorials and direct supervision from big budget movie and High End TV Art Directors & Prop Makers. Please look around my site to view my efforts. I am especially proud of the more detailed Star Wars & twisted gameshow model.
The Star Wars prop is one of the most advanced projects in this portfolio. This was the end of term assignment for the Prop making Module on my UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma at Creative Media Skills and Pinewood Studios.
This was created with large amounts of detail and stages. It was also restarted several times.
The brief was we got given a pine box 6 cm x 19 x 45 and to build a prop worthy of being on the set of a Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings or Star Wars franchise film or High-End TV show.
I created a mobile command and control system that could be used for various plot points such as a hacking, safe cracking, ship maintenance weapons control, communication system with animated screens and lighting controls.
Tutors Included Prop Makers:
This was a highly detailed miniature set concept model to bid for the opportunity to have our model developed into a full-size set for the end of year production Domiciles. The plot is based around 3 migrants who meet in the home office, awaiting interviews.
One of them, Javier falls asleep watching the TV and is transported into a nightmarish dream sequence with the others and receptionist into a rigged, racist gameshow where the prize is a visa and failure means getting dragged out to deportation.
I based the concept on films that demonstrate modern versions of roman arenas, such as films like “The Running Man”, “Hunger Games”, “Battle Royal” combined with the likes of what far right propaganda channels like the home office, GB and Fox News could come up with.
Tutors Included prop maker:
This was the main project in the week long Miniature Modelmaking short course at Creative Media Skills.
As a small team we created a miniature model ships graveyard model that could be the base for later visual effects.
This had false perspective, poly carving, set decorations, silicon moulding, resin cast elements, artificial foliage and creative lighting.
I focused on creating much of the debris field Casting and pointing parts from mould I made and adding in sound and foliage
This was taught by tutors ?:
Leigh and daughter Lauren Took of Mattes & Miniatures Visual Effects Ltd who also taught the Prop Making Essentials short course at
Creative Media Skills.
Examples of Prop making mostly from my Creative Media Skills Art Department UAL Level 4 professional diploma.
These include supersized scaled up props such as my nearly 1m matchstick or thus half size apple, 2 part moulded soft props and prop pens, silicon body parts and more.
Tutors Included Prop Makers:
3D creative design work carried out & learned at Creative Media Skills art dept training centre at Pinewood Studios.
Drafting and White Card Modelmking was taught mostly by Art Directors:
My LARP prop weapons designed and created under the name Merlin's Armoury whilst in college.
They were constructed with fibre glass core structures contained in Plastazote foam and latex skins for mock combat fantasy game use and theatrical props.
A variety of swords, axes, maces and more exotic items. By far the most complex of these was the Decimator Hybrid which covers many pages.
Some of the effects make up and prosthetics I produced self taught created with items at home often to try and win Halloween costume competitions.
This giant prop tarantula was built to the size of a double bed for Halloween for front of house decoration. 3D printed parts were designed in Solidworks. It was created mostly from insulating foam, giving a fibreglass shell with jointed legs and involved detailing instructions.
Snow gives me the opportunities to get creative & demonstrate my drive to put in effort and hours to produce the most creative work I can.
Many were cats as familiar with their bodies and were good enough to get over 100 people stop to take photos and get published in local press.
Other creatures include the tarantual and dragon cakes decoration.
A collection of incomplete concept projects often produced at short notice for things like job interviews, unpaid work experience, projects that had the budget cut, quotes for projects, ideas needing funding and resources I don't have etc.
Often these show my latest sketch and CAD development skills.
Various commercial and student graphic design work.
Product and Industrial Design projects mostly from my degree and product concept ideas.
Much of my work has been background acting as a film extra but, I have also taken part in various gameshows and done presenter training.
These are own projects but with a more practical use. Often I jury rig solutions in a messy manner out of what is to hand.
Other projects were more in depth designed with sketching and CAD then carried through or roughly made with the low grade tooling and low budget I have to hand. These tend to be completed up to prototype level at least.
Sketch ideation is a major initial stage of most projects, running thought ideas and initial problem solving and development, cheap and fast before wasting materials and starting to prototype. Here are some examples of my sketch development.
